Unknown people damaged the sculpture of Vasily Korchovy “Confident”

Not a week has passed since the installation date of the 8 sculptures from the “Chervonechorne” collection in Stryisky Park, and the objects have already received both a lot of positive reviews and criticism, raising a very wide discussion both in the media and on social networks.

Last night, August 23, unknown people damaged Vasyl Korchovy's sculpture “Confident”, installed in Stryisky Park, pouring it with recycled oil.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and the team of the artistic association “Chervonechorne”, park employees, restorer Daryna Lutsiuk are eliminating the damage done for the second day in a row. Unfortunately, the sculpture has not yet returned to its original appearance and it cannot yet be guaranteed that it will succeed. Currently, the area where the sculptures are located is patrolled by police to avoid repeated incidents. Our team is working to protect other sculptures from similar incidents.

We are sure that even despite the different opinions of the Lviv community, this case is only a provocation aimed at dissociating Ukrainians. We hope that “Confident” will continue to please those who like it. And it will remind all its critics that we live in a tolerant and democratic society.

The presentation of part of the sculptural collection of the creative association “Chervonechorne” and its co-founder Yuriy Stashkiv in Stryi Park was a logical continuation of the artistic initiative of the association, which was launched in 2011, called Kaniv International Sculpture Symposium.

The project in Stryi Park was supported by Lviv City Council, Lviv Regional Council with the assistance of curator Pavel Gudimov (art center Ya Gallery).
