Five new sculptures: results of the X Kanev International Sculpture Symposium

During September and October 2021, sculptors Oleksandr Dyachenko, Vasily Korchevy, Ilya Novgorodov, Vitaliy Protosenia and Zdravko Zdravkov worked at the X Kanivsky International Sculpture Symposium on new works with gabbro. We show the results of the anniversary symposium.

Vasyl Korchovy

The largest work of Vasily Korchovy from the series “Other Beauty” hyperrealistically depicts the female body with all its folds, bulges and nuances. Korchevoy has been working on such forms since the 1980s, that is, since the beginning of his creative activity. A feature of the Kanev sculpture is a small lizard at the feet of a woman — a reptile interfered in the artistic process and was imprinted in it.

Vitaliy Protosenia

The work of Vitaly Protoseni entitled “Architectonics of movement” was created according to a sketch that has been reworked since 2019. According to the author, it transmits the movement of form and matter, as a result of which energy is obtained. And the sculpture is closely connected with the archetypal mathematical symbols and geometric figures that people have used since the beginning of art. In particular, it is a triangle, a square, a circle - what everything is built from.

Ilya Novgorodov

The work of Ilya Novgorodova “Influence” shows stable forms that are placed on their most vulnerable edges. However, the shapes are combined in such a way that they form a new whole shape—again stable. From the previous years of Novgorodov's work, this sculpture differs in that volume appears in it - for a long time the sculptor worked with a laconic “frame” of metal.

Zdravko Zdravkov

Bulgarian sculptor Zdravko Zdravkov (Zdravko Zdravkov) realized the work at the symposium “Structure”. In his sculptures, Zdravko is inspired by the forms of ancient temples, plays off their characteristic arches, vaults and geometry. Sculpture in Kanev is no exception and is also inspired by architectural spatial compositions.

Oleksandr Dyachenko

Oleksandr Dyachenko is a permanent sculptor and co-curator of the Kaniv Symposium. His archetypal human images are the most common in the Caneva Sculpture Park. This year Diachenko created a job “Twins”which at the same time refers to the duality of man and to the universality of human nature in general.
