Still Life
2017 • Oleksandr Babak
The artistic platform ChervoneChorne published the book “Still Life”, which became a document of the great artistic project of the same name by Alexander Babak. “Still Life” is the result of the artist's reflections on global concepts of life, war, creativity. Through the study of the beauty of the landscapes of the city of Kaniv, the artist reveals to us his deep experiences, worldview, attitude to reality. He turns to the details, looks closely at the sleeping villages full of silence and splendor, conducts a creative expedition on a particular street that has been caught in the middle of time - and all in order to train his memory, as if to test his own ability to feel, to hear. Still life — as a witness of time, a center of quiet life, without war and conflict — and therefore without man — is a certain parallel reality, a hiding place for the artist, one of the main motives of his works. The series demonstrates a fascination with nature, its self-sufficiency, where time and space exist in complete harmony without disturbing it. The looseness of form, the expression of color — everything speaks of a powerful surge of energy of the artist, which accompanied the process of creation. Oleksandr Babak belongs to the leading group of leading Ukrainian artists whose work has opened a new stage of contemporary Ukrainian art.
